Learning From Others’ Mistakes

Rodney Winters | October 6, 2009

Sometimes we can learn from the mistakes of others, as well as their positive experiences. There are some situations in life that I don’t want to have to experience personally. I would rather learn from what someone else has gone through, so that I don’t have to face the same consequences. This requires openness and honesty. Too often we hide and try to act like we have everything together. Exposure is key to recovery. We cannot be healed if we hide.

Could it be that we were allowed to go through our particular struggle just so we can help someone else who may be facing a similar situation? We need to be transparent with others. Ask God to give you opportunities to share your failures with “safe”, hurting people, so you can be an encouragement to them.

I believe that when the Lord allows us to experience certain struggles it is not only to position us to help someone else who may face the same or similar situation at a later time, but it also can serve as what I call “A Maturity Opportunity” for us in that we become touchable enabling us to minister a heartfelt word of encouragement and at the same time we are strengthened in our faith and our character is built. It’s yet another “defining moment” in our walk with the Lord.
